Programs for the Youth/Young Adults:
1st Program: “Water Wonders”:
Visit our pond and take a trip out on the floating classroom. You can watch for birds and identify what birds with field guides; you can use our water quality kits to test the water (temperature, pH, depth, clarity) and discuss what may live in the pond. From shore, use nets and capture macro invertebrates to identify and look at under the microscopes. We have a chart that you can use to understand the quality of the water based on what lives there. The floating classroom is wheelchair accessible.
2nd Program “Garden”
We will tour the garden and greenhouse. We will also do a scavenger hunt to learn more about gardens (edible plants, compost, photosynthesis). You will get to harvest and taste produce. We will also have materials for those who want to make pots out of newspaper and plant their own seeds, make a mosaic out of seeds, or make a painting with flower petals.
