HEADSTRONG is committed to preventing pedestrian-vehicle crashes by educating ourselves and our communities about the factors that cause crashes. Road and crosswalk design, driver behavior, and pedestrian behavior can all contribute to these devastating crashes. We can change the appalling statistics of crash death and injuries. We have to educate ourselves and commit to a significant shift in our attitudes, road designs, and behaviors.
The links below include organizations committed to changing the statistics of pedestrian death and injury. Headstrong thanks them for their tireless efforts. There are also links with information about the realities on our roads. With education and action we can save lives.
Pedestrian InRoads: The freedom to walk and use our roads without fear or pain of violent, sudden loss from being hit by a car is a basic human right. Pedestrian-versus-car crashes claim new victims every day, and the carnage must stop. Pedestrian InRoads operates with the belief that real change occurs when understanding and empathy are engaged through education, a fair legal structure, and intelligent enforcement. The problem of pedestrian sacrifice on our roads is institutionalized. Design and engineering solutions that can save lives today, must be implemented now.
Feet First helps people create more walkable communities. Across Washington, pedestrian transportation is broken and lacking. Every other mode of transportation has an organized industry and a professional lobby, yet pedestrians are lacking a basic right to safe, healthy mobility. We're the group that puts feet first.
The Partnership for Safe Driving More than 11 million crashes take place on U.S. roads every year, resulting in more than 3 million police-reported injuries and 40,000 deaths. Unfortunately, most serious crashes are not accidents. They are the direct result of dangerous driving. The Partnership for Safe Driving is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating all forms of dangerous driving. Founded in February 1997 and headquartered in Washington, DC, we are working to change the driving culture in America through education, research, and grassroots activism.
